Oh Miley.....

As we all know, Miley Cyrus was definitely stole the show at the VMA's this August. Her performance  was definitely one for the record books. She came dressed in a latex bra and matching underwear reading to perform her latest hit, We cant Stop. Her dance with Robin Thicke was seen as extremely inappropriate by the public, actually, almost unbelievable. This article also highlights the fact that Miley "stole the crown" from Lady Gaga; who performed years before. There was a strong feeling of connection between Miley's performance and Lady Gaga's, but nonetheless, Miley's was the show stopper. Pictures and tweets were buzzing around twitter that night, everyone was in complete shock and total disgust. One picture that I actually saw on twitter was a shared photo from Will Smith's family who attended the VMA's when Gaga performed. (shown below)

Viewers were trying to compare both performances, insinuating that both Gaga and Miley were absolutely baffling and negatively jaw dropping. The fact that kids were subjected to such provocative behavior on stage is very upsetting to society, and is up for discussion. However, there are others who believe it's an innocent form of self-expression. People all over the world have mixed feelings regarding Cyrus who was not afraid to flaunt her new self on stage. The real question is what does Miley think? Bill Werde, is among the many few who thinks Miley's performance is acceptable. He says, "she doesn't care what u think, and that's her brand. She just delivered." Miley has made it very clear that she is not the little teen pop star on Disney Channel anymore. Her performance symbolized this sort of transformation from little girl to a sexy twenty-year old. It is evident her brand has shifted. She is optimistically taking control, breaking through the walls of her youth like wrecking ball.

  1. I think that Miley Cyrus is at the time at her life where she is ready to express herself. I think that her VMA performance was not the best way for her to express herself. I think that she is still trying to find herself as a young woman and still has not figured it out yet. She grow up in the spotlight-and to fast-so what can you expect from her? I think the world should let Miley figure herself out and leave her alone.

  2. I think that her performance was unacceptable for the VMA's, however, I do agree with Wendy's comment that she is trying to find herself. Miley is trying to break away from what she grew up as, which was the Disney Channel star Hannah Montana. This may not have been the best way to show that she is no longer the innocent little Disney star but it does prove that she is growing up and trying to now figure out who she is as a person.

  3. Miley Cyrus performance at the VMAS was no different from the pervious acts such as Madonna and Britney and Rihanna. I feel that all child hood celebrities goes through growing pains just like the rest of us, Of course they're growing up in the public eye makes it tricky for them to live normal lives. Most of all I feel that everything that is done on TV is planned and framed for all us to indulge in the "gossip" or the "conversation" that is trending. If Miley wasn't "twerking" on the VMAS we would have only spent a few hours talking about it and then on to the next topic. Miley had a different plan for us, she wanted everybody to talk about it a month later,so she showed out.

  4. If the Video Music Awards had to be summed up into one word, that word would be scandalous. Whether it was the make out scene between Brittany and Madonna, Kanye West ruining Taylor Swift's moment, or Miley Cyrus "twerkin it," the VMA's are always filled with "OMG" moments. I honestly wasn't surprised with Miley's performance just because I saw the "We Can't Stop" video weeks beforehand. I realize that she's trying to find herself and create a new image, but the route she's taking is risky. I feel that she went overboard on her VMA performance, but I'm sure that's what she was going for. I mean, look at us, we're still talking about her "twerking" a month later! Overall, I think Miley should just keep doing what she's doing. She's already topped the charts with her two latest singles, "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball," and her album hasn't even been released. Miley might be crazy, but she knows what she's doing.

  5. As much as we hate to say it, Miley is smart.

She knows what she's doing on a Public Relations standpoint. Miley has an album coming out in the next month and she needs as much publicity as she can get to promote it. She has already has a bad reputation in the media and she used it to her advantage. The music video to her single "Wrecking Ball," also apart of her new album, gained over 20 million views in 12 hours. Her VMA performance caused a record breaking "Twitter spree;" it was recorded the average was 306 tweets per minute; more than the Superbowl blackout.

Her demonstration of "twerk" has created tons of buzz within the media. Vines are being created, pictures are going viral, and we can not get enough of her.

To sum everything up, let's just say, everyone is hyped to see what is on this album.
